Architectural Features

The design for AISHK’s new campus won the prestigious Hong Kong Institute of Architects Medal of the Year in 2001 – the city’s most prestigious architectural award  recognising architectural excellence in Hong Kong.

In awarding the medal, HKIA’s judging panel made the following comments:

"The project was considered to be both an efficient and inspiring solution to a complex educational project.

“Its central theme is based on external circulation edges overlooking a sports arena, which is quintessentially Australian, but even more successful is the way the circulation spaces promote student interaction, culminating in a vertical gathering space at the fulcrum of the L-shaped plan.”

The outstanding design features of the school building are its balance of light and shade, the internal, 8-storey high vertical space which is covered by a glazed roof and its breezy openness.
