Role Statement:
The Careers Advisor will work closely with the Head of Secondary and the Deputy Head of Secondary in leading and managing careers counselling services to students, Years 9-12, within the school. This role involves close liaison with teaching staff, particularly teachers of students in Years 9-12.
In addition to teaching duties, the Careers Advisor will be accountable for the management and development of careers counselling services offered to students and their parents for the making of informed decisions relating to both school subject choices and post school pathways.

General Responsibilities:
Leadership

Curriculum
- Co-ordinate the preparation of careers related reports and submissions to the School Executive and/or relevant committees.

- Liaise with other schools, tertiary institutions, outside agencies and support groups to maintain and upgrade careers resources.
- Develop further school-industry-tertiary links which sustain and grow a vibrant careers education program.
- Interact with employers re provision of information for students and to negotiate student work experience placements.
- Support homeroom teachers in the development/implementation of curriculum/pastoral care programs which incorporate such skills as resume writing, writing applications and interviewing techniques. Work directly with students in these areas as required.
Students
- The Year 9-12 student cohort will be streamed and divided between the Careers Advisors, so that each Advisor maintains a continuous Careers Advisor relationship with a student over a four-year period.
- Establish routines/procedures to counsel students in Years 9-12 (and their parents) on realistic career options and subject choices. Increasing time emphasis will be devoted to the more senior students.
- Instigate and supervise student construction of their ePortfolio.
- Ensure that Year 10 students participate in the school work experience program and that the program is seen as an integral part of the school’s educational program.
- Participate in Student-Parent-Teacher information activities and subject selection information sessions.
- Co-ordinate the preparation of student applications for tertiary institutions and employers.
Collate and maintain data on the educational and vocational destinations of exiting students.
